How to Make Yerba Mate Tea

Ingredients Per Cup

On average, most people use 2-3 tablespoons of Yerba Mate per cup, however some people may use more or less depending on their preference. Personal preference plays a big role in determining the amount per cup.

Brewing Instructions

  1. Fill your mate gourd with 3/4 of Yerba Mate. Shake your mate and make a “montañita”. Pour warm water to soak the dry leaves. Introduce the bombilla in the mate. Serve your first mate. Heat your water to about 160-180°F (70-80°C).

  2. Add one tablespoon per cup of water into a coffee filter and brew as you would a normal pot of coffee.

To brew the herbal drink:

  1. Heat water to 160-180°F (70-80°C)
  2. Fill cup two-thirds full with leaves
  3. Gently shake to remove dust
  4. Pour heated water into cup
  5. Let steep 3-5 minutes before drinking

What is a Serving?

The amount used per serving depends on personal taste but is typically around 1 tablespoon of dry leaves per cup of hot water. The strength and flavor can be adjusted based on the amount used and the length of brewing time.
